NVQ Level 2 – Professional Cookery
Duration – Up to 6 Months
Contents – A Work related qualification designed to recognise and improve individual skills, knowledge and ability.
The Syllabus covers the wide and diverse range of skills required to become a professional chef.
Target Participant Group – This NVQ is designed for junior chefs and also kitchen assistants who wish to progress to the role of Chef.
Synopsis – NVQ’s are designed to recognise a candidate’s competence at work by assessing and evaluating performance. Candidates will work closely with a single appointed assessor to identify current knowledge and agree targets and how to achieve them. Assessment and evaluations will normally take place at the candidate’s place of work, by means of observation, questioning and occasionally collected evidence of knowledge and competence.
For a full award, candidates must complete 3 core units, which are:
- Maintain a safe, hygienic and secure working environment.
- Contribute to effective teamwork
- Maintain food safety when storing, preparing and cooking food.
Plus eleven optional units, which are chosen to fit around the candidates current work role.
