This course is designed for both care and senior staff who need to update or gain an awareness of this topic.

Synopsis

The course will explore different skills and methods needed to aid understanding of dementia, enhance effective communication, explore their own thoughts, feelings and assumptions of clients in care.

AimThe aim of this course is to increase awareness of dementia and promote quality of life through understanding.

Objectives

Having completed the course participants will be able to:

  1. Understand dementia and how it presents itself
  2. State the various forms of Dementia
  3. Identify the effects dementia has on individual and carer
  4. Understand possible behavioural changes
  5. Identify the importance of communication and assessment of risk.

This course provides the opportunity for skills practice, the course will serve as both a refresher for experienced staff and as an introduction to those experiencing a change in their work role.
